FRIBOURG AS SEEN BY…
FRIBOURG – FOODIE HEAVEN
When he was appointed director of a hotel in the canton, Stéphane Schlaeppy only intended to stay around for a couple of years. Nearly 20 years on, the hotelier, who originally hails from the canton of Neuchâtel, is now firmly ensconced in German-speaking Fribourg, “so that my children can grow up bilingual.” On a professional level, Fribourg also has much to offer the Director of the four-star Cailler hotel. “Our central location means that we are able to attract customers, particularly conference guests, from all over Switzerland.” They are precisely the kind of client who jumps at the chance to sample regional produce and specialities like fondue and meringues with double cream – absolute musts for visitors to the canton. According to the hospitality professional, “Fribourg restaurants tend to favour simple, traditional dishes, made from quality local produce.” At the same time, “the density of “starred” restaurants in the canton is pretty impressive (31 Gault&Millau restaurants).” Clearly, the canton of Fribourg caters for all tastes.
