A NATURAL AND LIVING ENVIRONMENT LIKE NO OTHER
The cantonal hospital has a 120-strong A&E team that are on hand to treat patients at any time of the day or night.
“Switzerland has one of the best health systems in the world”, declares Anne-Claude Demierre, quickly pointing out that international studies have also reached the same conclusion. According to the Cantonal Minister of Health and Social Affairs, “Health is a top policy priority” and “the country allocates 10% of its GDP to health spending”, which puts it well above the OECD average. Furthermore, Switzerland, where basic health insurance is mandatory for all, has the second-highest density of physicians – 3.8 for every 1 000 inhabitants – among OECD countries. All medical personnel in Switzerland, including physicians, have received “a recognised and first-rate education”. In this regard, the canton of Fribourg is no exception. The canton “provides wide-ranging medical services, ensuring that its residents receive the treatment they need close to their home.” In addition to the bilingual Fribourg Cantonal Hospital (HFR), which is spread over five sites, the canton boasts a solid network of mental healthcare providers, as well as home help and home care services, general and specialist medical practices, and two private clinics.
